There are strong antibacterial herbs in this formula, including Coptis Huang Lian, Scutellaria Huang Qin, and Rheum Da Huang. It is effective against strep infections affecting the throat, sinus and eye, and can be used for early bacterial infections of the lung. The large amount of rhubarb (Rheum Da Huang) follows the principle of purging heat toxins through the stool.

Clears heat, drains fire, resolves toxins, dispels pathogenic wind, frees the stool, benefits the eyes, opens the orifices, relives pain.

indications:

Use for bacterial infections (toxic damp heat accumulation) in the head (upper jiao) causing fever, headache, sore throat, strep throat, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, eye stye, ear infection or sinus infection. Can also be used for stomach and intestinal heat causing tooth infection, mouth ulcers, swollen infected gums, nosebleed or constipation. Also for skin infections and reactions including boil or redness and itching, and epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis.

contraindications:

Rheum Da Huang is the largest ingredient and will cause diarrhea in most cases. Reduce dosage accordingly. The formula should be discontinued once heat symptoms subside or change.

Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing. Not recommended for children less than 12 years of age. Do not exceed recommended serving size or use in excess of 8-10 days. Not recommended in cases of intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain of unknown origin, or any inflammatory condition of the intestines (appendicitis, colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel, etc.), spitting blood, tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension, liver disorders, severe kidney insufficiency, and hypokalemia. May potentiate potassium depletion of thiazide diuretics and stimulant laxatives, as well as the action of cardiac glycosides, and cortisol. Individuals with peptic ulcers or history of kidney stones should use this product cautiously.
